The College community is preparing to say goodbye to the special guests of honour who have been staying at the College for the past few days. Eight priests celebrating special jubilees have joined the students, staff and sisters for the Saint Andrew’s day celebrations. Collectively they can boast 415 years of ordained ministry in Scotland.
The day after the festivities of Saint Andrew’s day, they invited the community to join them for a special Mass at the tomb of Saint Peter, underneath the Basilica in the Vatican. Monsignor Charles Hendry of the Diocese of Dunkeld, marking 60 years of priesthood, was the main celebrant (pictured) and Fr John Eagers of the Diocese of Paisley, celebrating 25 years, was the homilist. One of the students from the College, Rev Matthew Carlin, deaconed at Mass.
The Scots College community is extremely grateful for the witness shown by these men, and for the advice they have given over the past few days. Saint Andrew’s day 2015 and the days surrounding it will not be forgotten in a hurry.
