The Scots College 5-a-side team recently saw action in the first football tournament of the season. They travelled across Rome to the Irish College for the annual Fr. Ragheed Ganni Tournament.
The competition is held to honour the memory of Fr. Ragheed, who was a seminarian and postgraduate priest at the Irish College. He died, along with several deacons, after celebrating Mass in Iraq in 2007.
The Scots, along with the hosts, came up against teams from the Beda, North American, English and Marist Colleges. It wasn’t a great day for the Scots squad, who lost all of their games, despite putting in a valiant effort.
Following the games, the trophy was presented to the winning English side, the array of pizza laid on was duly demolished and then spectators and players gathered in the Irish College Chapel for Vespers to round off an enjoyable day for all involved.
