The Scots College today welcomed the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, the Right Reverend Doctor Derek Browning.
The Moderator of the Church of Scotland stopped by the Scots College in Rome today (Thursday) as part of his official programme of events during a 4 day trip to the Eternal City. The Right Reverend Dr Derek Browning, along with his personal chaplain, the Principal Clerk and Ecumenical Officer for the Church of Scotland, began their day in the Vatican where they had a private audience with Pope Francis.
Welcoming the group to the college, the Rector, Fr Daniel Fitzpatrick said that the visit was “a great pleasure” for the community. He added that hosting the Rt Rev. Browning and his group for lunch at the college the college was a great opportunity “…to discuss ways in which we can bring together those preparing for future ministry and priesthood in Scotland.”
The visit of the Moderator comes a few months after the college hosted a group of Scots who were taking part in a Focolare conference in Rome before the summer.
During his time in Italy the Moderator has also been meeting groups at St Andrews, the Scots Kirk in Rome, spoken about the refugee situation in the Mediterranean and met Sally Axworthy, the British Ambassador to the Holy See.
